 Customer Challenge

The refinery sought an alternative to costly and disruptive landlines during a shutdown / “turnaround”. Establishing a short-term wireless platform at the petrochemical complex presents unique challenges including conflicting RF applications and the presence of dense steel structures and storage tanks. Traditionally, engineers and computer support were necessary to maintain a microwave link for network access.

BATS Solution

BATS provided a custom solution integrating a 5.4 GHz Point-to-Point (PTP600) Wireless Broadband Radio from Motorola, Inc.  The BATS system located, locked, and tracked the wireless broadband connection by reflecting the radio frequency off of a large oil storage tank.  The network connection performed flawlessly throughout the turnaround period, offering data speeds up to 127 Mbps
